We can correct vision defects with many surgical methods. The first choice is laser vision correction, but sometimes this type of procedure, for various medical reasons, is not recommended. Sometimes during the qualifying visit, the doctor determines that the patient does not qualify for laser vision correction by any known method. There can be many reasons for this, but the most common problem is that the cornea is too thin or the vision defect is too large.
The alternatives are two other surgical methods – implantation of an ICL lens under the iris, or refractive replacement of the intraocular lens.

The ICL lens implantation procedure is a fully reversible operation. It allows correction of nearsightedness from -0.5 diopters to -18 diopters, farsightedness from +0.5 diopters to +10 diopters, and astigmatism up to +6.0 diopters. In addition, ICL lenses are implanted permanently, but not forever. They can be exchanged for others that match the current visual defect. The procedure makes it possible to implant a corrective lens with a different diopter number in one eye than in the other, so there is a perfect match.
What exactly is ICL (Implantable Collamer Lenses), often referred to as phakic lenses? They are technologically advanced intraocular lenses that do not need to be removed and reapplied or replaced every day, as is the case with contact lenses.
The surgical procedure for implanting phakic lenses takes a short time, and recovery is very fast. This method is indicated especially for larger vision defects, when one does not qualify for laser vision correction, or when correction by other methods is impossible.
