Information for Patients

Here you will find answers to frequently asked questions. Take a look at how quickly we can solve your problem.

Do you have more questions?

We will be happy to answer and explain everything to you in detail. Just give us a call or send us an email. We are waiting for you at Eyemed.

Laser vision correction - how to register for qualification?

You do not need a referral to register for qualification for laser vision correction. Just register online or call Eyemed. You can choose a full qualification for the procedure or take advantage of a free initial consultation.

Pre-qualification for laser vision correction. Examination by an optometrist. Removal of contact lenses is required, preferably 1 day or 5 hours before the appointment. Only the necessary examinations are performed during the visit. However, full qualification for laser vision correction is performed by optometrists, medical technicians, and microsurgeon. Users of daily, bi-weekly, and monthly contact lenses must stop

wearing them 2 weeks before the procedure, toric lenses 3 weeks, and hard lenses one month before the procedure. (The price includes a package of more than a dozen eye examinations) Laser vision correction can be performed using several surgical techniques. The results of the tests and the patient’s expectations determine which technique the surgeon chooses. Some of the safest methods for the patient are those in which the corneal surface is modeled using SmartPulse, and those where there is no interference with the anterior surface of the cornea and the epithelial surface at all – these are microlens procedures, in which the optical change of the eye is made by creating a microlens inside the cornea. Even though the cornea is so very thin – about 0.6 mm – the SmartSight procedure is possible using the Schwind Atos femtosecond laser. It’s a super-precision device for vision correction using the microlens method. – It is not an ordinary laser for vision correction, but a technology that far surpasses all other currently known solutions. At the moment it is the first device of this generation in Europe.

How and by what technique your visual defect will be corrected will be decided by your doctor after all the necessary examinations.

Cataract surgery - how to register for the procedure?

A patient does not need a referral to sign up for pre-qualification for cataract surgery. Such a visit is free of charge and does not take long. The patient is then enrolled by registration for a corresponding date for the full qualification visit and the procedure. At the Eyemed Ophthalmology Center, we perform more than a dozen cataract removal surgeries every day. We perform nearly 3,000 procedures every year. We have a specially prepared operating room for this type of surgery with the highest sterility rivaling microbiology laboratories. We also perform the procedure using the world’s best technology. The most modern surgical method for cataract removal, computer-assisted by the VERION system – is recommended for patients who have cataracts and corneal astigmatism. The use, at the time of surgery, of Alcon’s state-of-the-art Panoptix Toric trifocal toric lens implant, allows excellent vision for looking far away, corrects corneal astigmatism, and allows reading without the use of glasses. In addition, it allows excellent vision in patients who have worn glasses all their lives due to astigmatism, farsightedness, nearsightedness, or using glasses for reading. After the removal, destroyed by the disease, of our physiological intraocular lens, a Panoptix Toric lens implant from Alcon is implanted, so that the Patient after this procedure does not need to use any glasses – neither for looking far away nor for reading, because the implanted lens allows perfect vision even if the Patient has worn glasses all his life due to astigmatism, farsightedness or myopia, or has used reading glasses in addition

Do you need a referral to an eye clinic?

You do not need a referral when you register for a commercial visit or a free cataract screening visit. To register for an NHF-funded visit, you must have a referral from your family doctor or a doctor of any specialty.

The referral cannot be issued later than the day of registration. It must be delivered to the Eyemed ophthalmology clinic within 14 working days, counting from the day of registration (no later than the day of the visit before its start). If the referral is not provided in due time, the NHF obliges the clinic to remove the patient from the waiting list. Registration can be done in person, by phone, and through our website REGISTRATION ON-LINE.

A referral is not required when the patient is continuing treatment. Whether a new visit is a continuation of treatment is determined by the attending physician creating a treatment plan for the patient. The patient must attend the appointment on the date specified by the doctor. Note: Recently there has been an opinion among patients that they can sign up without a referral for an appointment within 720 days of their last visit. Unfortunately, this opinion is not supported by any law. The continuation of treatment is determined solely by the treatment plan.
